Ubuntu Server 10.04 Home File Server

Ubuntu Server 10.04 Home File Server

One of my favorite things to do in my spare time is work on computers. Naturally I eventually wanted a small box to put Linux on and use as a file server for my house. I purchased a smallĀ Acer AspireRevo and began to get to work. I instantly formatted the drive and began to install Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS on it. Once that was finished I installed a few essential applications like SSH, Fail2Ban, Samba and more. I configured all of the settings that I needed and was done.

Now that I’m done with the setup of the server I use it to stream music, pictures and videos to my different computers and TV’s around the house. I also have it hooked up to the internet at all times so that I am still able to access files from anywhere. The only maintenance I need to do now is to make sure it is up to date with security patches and every so often check the logs to make sure that Fail2Ban is doing its job of keeping people out.
